How to Destress When the Stakes are High

How to Destress When the Stakes are High

Let’s talk about how to destress just before your high-performance or high-stakes event is about to begin.

You already know calming techniques to keep your overall stress under control. These probably include some combination of exercise, yoga, meditation, sleep, and journaling.

But these overall destressing techniques are not useful for those OMG-I’m-about-to-be-on events when your stomach is doing flip flops and your mind is racing.

WHAT ARE HIGH-PERFORMANCE EVENTS?

Here are examples (I’ve experienced all of these!):

  • Negotiating a major deal.

  • Presenting to the c-suite

  • Interviewing for your dream job

  • Requesting a promotion and/or raise

  • Having a difficult conversation

  • Delivering the keynote speech

  • Giving a TV or podcast interview

Just reading that list is stressful!

WHY THE USUAL CALMING TECHNIQUES DON’T WORK IN HIGH-PERFORMANCE EVENTS

You can’t unroll your yoga mat outside the c-suite conference room or take a power nap while waiting for the job interview to begin. 🤣

WHAT YOU REALLY NEED TO DO JUST BEFORE HIGH-PERFORMANCE EVENTS

You need calming techniques that fulfill three criteria:

  • can be done anywhere

  • are inconspicuous

  • take only minutes

That’s why I wrote the FREE guide
