You Might Be a Social Change Advocate if…

Jeff Foxworthy, a very funny southern comedian, became famous many years ago with his shtick about “You might be a redneck if…” He seemingly has an unlimited number of ways to finish that sentence, all of which are hilarious. His humor is self-deprecating, talking more about his family and in-laws than about anyone else.

Ever since I launched my rebranded coaching practice, several people have asked me if I am still coaching [fill in the blank] people. Some of these people did not see themselves as the social change advocates they are. So here is my attempt to follow in Jeff Foxworthy’s shoes, albeit in a far less humorous fashion.

You might be a social change advocate if:

  • Your paid job, in part or in full, is to help diversify the workplace by helping women, people of color, and other minorities rise and succeed.
  • Your paid job, in part or in full, is to seek justice and equality for people or animals.
  • You are a woman, person of color, or member of another minority group breaking through barriers to your advancement.
  • You volunteer with an organization whose purpose is to help people (including children), the environment, or animals.
  • You spend some of your waking hours being a voice for the voiceless or a helping hand to the powerless.
  • You care.

That’s it. Pretty simple.

Still not sure? This should help:

Some of you may be surprised to learn you are a social change advocate. Welcome to the club. Contact me if you’re still not sure. I’ll help you complete “You might be a social change advocate if…” It may not be as funny as Jeff Foxworthy, but I promise it will be useful.
