Just Do It… Like a Girl

Telling a human male that he is behaving femininely is apparently a great insult. You run like a girl. You throw like a girl. You cry like a girl. To many, these are considered low blows, the ultimate in emasculation.

Enter Ashley Judd, the actress, humanitarian and voice for women internationally. She has turned this intended insult on its head. Her sole description of herself on Twitter is “Everything I do, I do like a girl.” She is a feminist who wears her femininity proudly. Of course she runs, throws and cries like a girl. Duh.

When one half of the world’s population is considered by many as “less than,” then Houston, we have a problem. That the masculine is still considered the ideal in the 21st century means we still have a lot of work to do. From pay equity to sexual assaults to medical decisions, the feminist agenda is crowded with goals to pursue.

Raising women up isn’t just good for women, but is imperative for the future of our world. We know that when women are healthy, educated and successful, their families and communities flourish as a result. Our future rests on all of us acting more like girls.
