2020 and Gratitude
The year 2020 will go down in history as a massive sh**show.
As many of you know, I believe we can always find gratitude in every situation. This doesn’t mean we would choose these events. We didn’t have a choice.
It does mean that given the events, we can find flickers of light. I’ll go first.
My personal flickers:
I still have a job.
I can afford my home.
I have plenty of healthy food.
My loved ones and I are covid-free. *knock on wood*
My 10-month old granddaughter has had two loving parents with her 24/7.
The weather is beautiful and walking outside is delightful.
I have health insurance and great healthcare.
Most stores either deliver or will load your purchases into your car curbside.
Technology has kept close relationships close.
“Hamilton” is streaming in my room where it happens. 😊
My societal flickers:
White people are waking up to centuries of systemic, institutionalized racism.
Difficult and necessary conversations are taking place.
People and corporations are beginning to take effective action on diversity, equity and inclusion, not just lip service.
The environment started to improve without humans buzzing around, clearly showing the massive impact of human endeavors on climate change.
Animals in the wild came out of hiding, enjoying themselves without fear.
Humans are slowly waking up to the fact that diseases, including pandemics, are frequently caused by human abuse and murder of animals for our own pleasure.
I know how fortunate I am. I’m not immune to suffering. I’ve had my share of personal sh**shows in the past.
But I’ve always found gratitude.
Now it’s your turn. What are your flickers?
I promise that writing them down will flood you with gratitude.
