Undo Overwhelm
You know that feeling when your brain feels full.
When you can’t fit one more piece of information inside your head.
When you want to cover your ears and say “la-la-la.”
Here are tips for feeling better.
Of course, the usual self-care tips always apply - exercise, meditate, sleep, and eat healthy foods.
But here are ways to specifically alleviate your overwhelm:
🔹 Journal. Make two columns. Label the left side “On One Hand” and the right side “But on the Other Hand.” In the left column write one area of your overload, e.g., “project deadline looming.” Then write a response in the right column, e.g., “I’ve never missed a deadline and I won’t this time, either.” This helps your brain see a bigger, more balanced picture, helping to reduce your anxiety. 📗
🔹 Dance. Dancing makes us feel better because we’re exercising off stress while sending feel good chemicals to our brains. I’ve been known to say, “Alexa, play dance music.” 💃🏼
🔹 Call a friend. Tell her how you’re feeling. She’ll reassure you. Validation and feeling heard are important. 👭
🔹 Walk outside. It’s important to get out of the built environment and into nature, even if you live in the middle of the city. A quick walk around the block shifts our thinking and calms us down. 🚶🏼♀️
🔹 Work with a coach. OK, a little self-serving, but it works. Hit reply and we’ll schedule a free, confidential Get Acquainted Call. 📱
Not only do these tips work for my clients, but they work for me as well. Let me know how they work for you, too.
